Hurom HU-100 Review

[/fusion_builder_column_inner]
Based on a single auger design, the Hurom HU-100 maximizes the efficiency of auger based juicers by taking this concept much further. It processes vegetables, fruits, wheat grass and even soy with greater efficiency by taking more time. Instead of just crushing the pulp, it utilizes two stages with the first dedicated to crushing and the second squeezing maximum juice from the pulp. The result of this unique double juicing process is a higher yield and a much drier pulp. Compared to centrifugal juicers, the Hurom HU-100 manages to produces 50 percent more yield.

Furthermore, it retains the nutritional profile of all ingredients better with a more freshness and flavor. There is hardly any foaming and frothing. Cleaning this juicer is just as easy. You only have to use water to self-clean the juicer. Its small, powerful and compact. Or in other words, it brings the best of masticating juicers and combines it with the size and form factor of a centrifugal juicer. Thanks to its slow speeds, the noise levels are controlled and durability is ensured with GE Ultem Auger. It comes with a coarse and fine dual stage filter set, self cleaning screen holder, tamper, 50 ounce juicing cup, brush, pulp extraction plugs and a guide.

Our Review:

Those who have gotten used to the quickness of a centrifugal juicer will find the Hurom HU-100 to be too slow. Having used masticating juicers in the past, I know how agonizingly slow these things can be. So, when the Hurom HU-100 took less than the average time to juice through a few fruits and veggies for a green drink, I was astonished. Even with dual stage juicing and double filtering, it manages to cut down juicing times drastically. So, this is a definite plus for folks who don’t like waiting for too long to get at the juice.

First up, I found that this juicer can squeeze vegetables dry. This is not something you expect a juicer to handle well. Yes, fruits are the forte of any juicer but vegetables are an entirely different ball game. So, when the Hurom HU-100 manages to produce extract from wheat grass, I know I am looking at a superior quality juicer. There is hardly any foam and the pulp is so dry that you probably cannot squeeze a single drop out of it even if you tried. A minor problem that I found with this juicer is its inability to process leafy stuffs such as Kale since it stops chewing on the leafy part and just wraps around it. You have to reverse it and then start all over again. So, don’t go juicing spinach, kale and similar stuffs, it is not worth the pain.

On the positive side of things, the Hurom HU-100 is silent and does everything at a laid back pace. So when you juice pomegranate seeds or berries, it doesn’t spit back at your face. Plus, there is no splashing or spattering because of this. Basically, it’s a juicer that any health conscious person would love to own.

Dual stage juicing, double filtering all add to the ease of use. However, the Hurom HU-100 loses points for its inability to tackle leafy veggies like Kale or Spinach. Otherwise, it is mighty ease and laid back to use.
The obvious cleanup requirements exist with the Hurom HU-100 being a masticating juicer. You need to open it up, remove all its components and clean it in hot water by hand. Thankfully, none of the components are hard to remove, clean or assemble but it does take time.
Splendid is the perfect definition of the Hurom’s juice quality. Hardly any froth or foam, we managed to keep our carrot juice fresh for three days at a stretch!
The Hurom has the highest yield among all masticating juicers and this is no easy feat to achieve. Hence, if you really wish to see the definition of a dry pulp get this juicer.
Large and its vertical design lets it pack in a stronger and sturdier motor, heavy auger which adds to the overall power output, probably one of the reasons why it can dry pulp to the core.
At such a laidback pace, no juicer ought to make a squeak and the Hurom HR-100 is as quite as it can get. No worries of waking neighbours up with this juicer friends.

Rating and Overview:

The Hurom HU-100 handles wheat grass with ease. In fact, if you plan on juicing a lot of veggies together then this is the best masticating juicer in the market. Granted it isn’t the best with Kale but the super-silent performance, dual stage filtering more than make up for the downside. Overall, it is an affordable and dependable juicer.

Features and Specifications:

Final Thoughts:

badge-4-7Usually, a masticating juicer is noisy, large, bulky and difficult to take care off. The Hurom HU-100 has got all the benefits of a centrifugal juicer such as compactness and affordability without the disadvantages of a masticating juicer like noise and nagging maintenance requirements. It’s an excellent juicer for veggies and fruits with hardly any major cons. Amazon.com tends to run regular offers and discounts on juicers. The Hurom juicer was value priced and seemed like a good deal. Within the first 10 days, it became apparent that the technical engineering quality of the juicer was shockingly poor (the top started to wobble, some carrot ends were “just too hard” to crush easily, etc.). Then after almost exactly 60 days of use (two juices in the morning per day), the heavy duty(?) Auger (crusher screw) end broke off. When contacting the seller, the parts were listed as “wear and tear” so there is no warranty except on the motor/base (and I would like to see that replacement happen). This Hurom brand must be coping other machines without understanding the technical requirements and not backing up the brand with warranty. It is like a a juicer manufacturer with P-plates. They have not yet learned how to do it well. I would recommend staying away from the Hurom brand altogether.
